ABOUT SEAN

Sean O’Kelley is an internationally acclaimed Jazz saxophonist, producer, teacher, and composer currently residing in the Los Angeles area.
Sean is the Tenor Saxophonist and Musical Director for Phat Cat Swinger; a powerhouse swing group originating from the High Desert cities of Southern California. Sean composes and arranges works for the 10 piece ensemble, facilitates rehearsals, and manages the group’s extensive 100+ song music library. The band just completed a whirlwind tour of Serbia, performing for thousands, in the pouring rain, in Novi Sad for the 15th Annual Festival of Street Musicians. Phat Cat Swinger has also performed at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas, the USS Midway in San Diego, and they’ve even performed for Star Wars director J.J. Abrams who proudly exclaimed, “There is no band better than Phat Cat Swinger!”

Sean draws inspiration from many artists, old and new. From improvisation legends Chris Potter and John Coltrane to swing masters like Lester Young and Sam Butera, Sean’s sound has been described as “At home anywhere, but yet still distinctive and uniquely modern.”
A well-educated and formally trained musician, Sean graduated from California State University Long Beach with degrees in Music Performance and Composition. He has performed at international music festivals in France, Switzerland, and now Serbia. He has studied under Jay Mason, Dr. Bruce Eskovitz, Doug Masek, Don Kubec, Charlie Richard, John Mackey, Dr. Carolyn Bremer, and Dr. Alan Shockley.
